Remark: Romberg was accused of conspiracy to commit war crimes and crimes against humanity and committing war crimes and crimes against humanity at the doctor trials for his involvement in the decompression experiments conducted at Dachau concentration camp, but was acquitted. Romberg, as assistant to Ruff, operated the decompression chamber in which Rascher willfully killed test subjects. Romberg could convince the court that Rascher did these killings only when Romberg was not present, and that he had no authority to prohibit Rascher from doing so.
