The journal Luftfahrtmedizinische Abhandlungen was published between 1936 and 1939, and edited by Werner Knothe and Artur Pickhan. It was published by Georg Thieme Verlag, Leipzig.
This journal was published under the auspices of the “Gemeinschaft der Lehrbeauftragten für Luftfahrtmedizin” (Engl: Alliance of Lecturers of Aviation Medicine), which was chaired by Knothe. Both Knothe and Pickhan were professors of radiology in Berlin. Knothe gave lectures in aviation medicine at the University of Berlin and held a pilot license. Pickhan also became editor of the important general medical journal Deutsche Medizinische Wochenschrift in 1933, which was also published by Thieme.
