Remark: Pfannenstiel was actually sent into early retirement in May 1945 by the medical faculty at Marburg, as he was such a rather prolific Nazi (among other things, he agreed to supervise the habilitation by Rascher). However, by the time Pfannenstiel was released from the POW camp, the denazification comittees had been put into the hands of the German administration, which showed less enthusiasm to persecute former Nazis. Pfannenstiel's case was dismissed as it was not expected that he would fall into the two highest categories of Nazi criminals. He thus should have gotten into his position as professor again, but the medical faculty would not have him back and also refused to make him an emeritus, so he was paid a pension without ever being active at the university again.
